Our Top 5 Pro Packing Tips

1. Preparation is key to a successful move

If you get packing with the right tools and in an organised way, then your move interstate will be smoother.

2. Work out what needs to go and what needs to stay

More space and items mean more money to transport them interstate. Often, moving can be a great excuse to get a fresh start. Downsizing and sorting through your belongings is a great way to clear out any unnecessary baggage.

3. Book a removal company

Once you have a rough idea of how much you will be packing to take with you, you can get a free quote.

We can help you with insurance questions, packing tips and work out where to store your items if your new home isn’t ready yet.

4. Get the right gear

You’ll need boxes, packing tape and pens/marking pens. Labels can be handy too.If you’re moving fragile items we recommend bubble wrap or newspaper so that items don’t hit each other and break.

Pro tip: Don’t be tempted to fit everything into huge boxes, remember that items such as books and electronics can get heavy really quickly. Also remember that lighter items should be placed in the top of your box – so that they aren’t crushed by heavier items.

5. Start packing early

To avoid the stress of packing late, it’s a good idea to get started packing a few weeks earlier than your move date.

Start with items that aren’t in every day use. It might even help to make a list of what you have and haven’t packed; so that you know how much you still have to go.

Pro tip: When dismantling furniture, place screws and fixings in a small ziplock bag, then label which item they belong to. Put them all in a single box where you keep all of these fixings, screwdrivers, allen keys – ready for when you unpack!
